We have a new, exciting opportunity for an Environment & Community Officer to join our team at Yarrabee. As an Environment & Community Officer, you will support the effective management of environmental obligations and community relations across the site. Reporting to the Senior Environment & Community Advisor, you will play a key role in ensuring compliance, stakeholder engagement and environmental best practices
Job Tasks and Responsibilities
This role will provide professional and technical support in relation to the effective management of environmental obligations and community relations, including:
- Ensure Compliance & Reporting – Assist in meeting statutory approvals and environmental obligations by supporting reporting requirements and maintaining up-to-date awareness of legislation.
- Environmental Monitoring & Sampling – Conduct field sampling, data collation, and reporting for groundwater, surface water, dust, and sewage treatment as required under site approvals.
- Site Inspections & Audits – Carry out environmental inspections for dams, levees, rehabilitation areas, and other site facilities to monitor compliance and performance.
- Rehabilitation & Environmental Planning – Collect and analyse data for rehabilitation monitoring against PRCP milestones and contribute to updating environmental management plans.
- Risk Identification & Prevention – Identify environmental hazards and risks, support corrective actions, and report non-conformances to ensure proactive management.
- Stakeholder & Community Engagement – Assist with community grant applications, support engagement activities, and liaise with local stakeholders under the guidance of the Environmental Advisor.
- Environmental System Implementation – Support the implementation of the Environmental Management System and contribute to ongoing improvement of site practices.
- Data Management & Corporate Reporting – Maintain comprehensive records, provide data for corporate reporting, and assist with external regulatory submissions.
Skills and Experience
The successful applicant will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field
- 1–3 years’ experience in an environmental role within the mining, engineering, or civil construction industries (graduates with relevant experience will be considered)
- Basic understanding of Queensland environmental legislation, standards, and management systems in relation to mining principles
- Basic knowledge of and willingness to develop technical skills in environmental monitoring, data management, and reporting and Technical aptitude in the areas of surface and groundwater monitoring and air, noise and blast monitoring
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
