Job Tasks and Responsibilities
- Undertake effective operation and maintenance of the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) to achieve planned production and offsite discharge targets within quality, cost, safety and environmental parameters.
- Undertake maintenance, record keeping and inspection/reporting to effectively support Water Treatment Plant operations.
- Support monitoring of plant inventories for chemicals, consumables and spares.
- Perform and monitor process sampling and testing to scrutinise plant performance.
- Monitor Water Treatment Plant operations and trends and escalate abnormal trends to the Water Supervisor.
- Work cohesively & participate as an active team member of the Water Treatment Plant team.
- Develop, improve and follow operational practices to maximise plant efficiency and ensure the safe and compliant production and distribution of potable water.
- Carry out the production of potable water for distribution across the complex and assist in this distribution including monitoring, dosing, flushing and emergency response when required.
- Work with the Water Supervisor, Water Superintendent and other technical experts in the identification and resolution of complex or unusual plant issues.
- Develop strong relationships with stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and addressing evolving needs and issues.
- Participate in an on-call roster to support the ongoing 24-hour operation of the WTP and the water portfolio.
- Carry out any other tasks across the water portfolio including the operation and maintenance of potable water assets, diesel and electric pumps, valves, pipelines etc. as needed.
Skills and Experience
Essential Criteria
- Certificate III in Water Industry Operations, or relevant trade qualifications, or relevant experience in the operation and maintenance of water treatment processes.
- Previous experience working with aspects of Water Quality Management Systems (Quality Assurance Plans, drinking water management plans etc.) and/or Maintenance Management Systems (SAP etc.).
- Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical hazards.
- Recognised proficiency with chemical handling, storage, and dosing systems.
- Strong knowledge of water quality requirements as they relate to potable water.
- Demonstrated ability in the use of computer applications with experience in the use of SCADA and Telemetry Systems.
- Ability to interpret analytical and other data to inform corrective actions and process improvement initiatives.
- The ability to undertake on-call duties as rostered and cover for periods of planned and unexpected leave.
- A current Driver’s Licence.
Desirable Criteria
- Relevant high risk licenses including forklift and EWP.
- Experience in confined spaces and working at heights.
- An understanding of the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
- Sound working knowledge of scientific field and laboratory equipment and techniques.
- Demonstrated competence operating advanced water treatment processes.
