Projects Manager

Moolarben Coal Operations are seeking a highly motivated Projects Manager to join the team. Reporting to the General Manager, the Projects Manager is responsible for the direction and implementation of Moolarben site specific projects to create value add and increase operational effectiveness for the site. Leading the Projects team using a proactive, innovative and solution based focus for the successful delivery of our targets through the capability of our people and our licence to operate. This role includes provision of civil support and services to Operations and the management of the Moolarben Water Treatment Plant.

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Scope, design and undertake construction of large civil and infrastructure projects to an agreed time, budget and quality.
  • Provide strategic water management advice to Operations.
  • Facilitate capital applications, organise design and approvals, construct and commission new facilities, assist with audits and compliance inspections.
  • Undertake agreed rehabilitation, soil stripping, dam desilting and water management projects.
  • Provide civil works, contract management and production systems to the site.
  • Provide contract management supervision of capital and operational projects
  • Accountability for all personnel in the Projects team to deliver quality, customer focused output. Specifically leading, task assignment, coaching, developing, monitoring and reviewing the performance of direct reports.
  • Effective management of resources and facilities including the management of contractors.
  • Work in close cooperation with peers and front line leaders to develop and implement appropriate strategies designed to improve the overall performance of the operations in terms of cost effective supply of saleable coal.
  • Effectively manage labour, including management of manning numbers within budget, succession planning is in place and timely replacement of staff.
  • Clearly communicate, monitor, support and implement policies, procedures and systems.
  • Develop supporting team relationships with all team members.
  • Provide contract and project management of larger civil and infrastructure projects.

Skills and Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Experience in management and supervision of civil projects and/or mining activities.
  • Relevant statutory and/or technical qualifications from a recognised body (Degree or Diploma)
  • Project management skills and experience
  • Strong technical and planning skill
  • Knowledge of business improvement methods and demonstrated experience of driving improvement
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Sound knowledge of Industrial & employee relations, statutory rules and regulations
  • Strategic & Conceptual thinking skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Implementation of annual forecasting and budget management
  • Sound knowledge of statutory rules and regulations.

Desirable Criteria

  • Management of large-scale construction or mining projects;
  • Relevant statutory qualifications (OCE, MEM, and/or experience in Open Cut Mining Water Treatment Plant and water management experience.
  • Expertise in use of project tools.
