Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Moolarben Coal Operations are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Potable Water Officer to join the team. In support of Moolarben Coal Operations focus on operational excellence and continuous improvement, the newly created role of Potable Water Officer is pivotal in ensuring the ongoing development and implementation of best-practice drinking water quality processes that ensure we meet customer expectations and regulatory obligations. This results in a multi-faceted position that blends field sampling, technical analysis, chemical dosing, minor maintenance works, stakeholder engagement and data entry. It will suit someone who enjoys combining office-based work with field-based tasks and who can confidently interpret and apply drinking water regulations and quality standards in a practical, operational environment.

 

Job Tasks and Responsibilities 

  • Complete the monitoring, dosing, flushing, sampling and emergency response of potable systems across the complex
  • Assist as required in the production and distribution of potable water for circulation across the complex
  • Accurately complete SAP maintenance requirements and any other electronic or manual data documents as they relate to the potable water systems and associated infrastructure
  • Monitor potable water operations and trends and escalate abnormal trends or concerns to the Water Supervisor
  • Undertake maintenance, record keeping and inspection/reporting to effectively maintain potable water operations
  • Support the monitoring of potable water inventories for chemicals, consumables and spares
  • Work cohesively & participate as an active team member of the Water team
  • Develop, improve and follow operational practices to ensure the safe and compliant distribution and storage of potable water
  • Work with the Water Supervisor, Water Superintendent and other technical experts in the identification and resolution of complex or unusual potable water-based issues
  • Develop strong relationships with stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and addressing evolving needs and issues
  • Develop, improve and follow operational practices to maximise potable water efficiency and ensure the safe and compliant production and distribution of potable water
  • Carry out any other tasks across the water portfolio as requested

Skills and Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Previous experience working with aspects of Water Quality Management Systems (Quality Assurance Plans, drinking water management plans etc.) and/or Maintenance Management Systems (SAP etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of water quality requirements as they relate to potable water
  • Recognised proficiency with chemical handling, storage, and dosing systems
  • Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical hazards
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to interpret analytical and other data to inform corrective actions and process improvement initiatives
  • A current Driver’s Licence

 

Desirable Criteria

  • Certificate III in Water Industry Operations or relevant experience in potable water works
  • An understanding of the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines
  • Sound working knowledge of scientific field and laboratory equipment and techniques
  • Possess relevant experience with the use of computers including in the use of computer monitoring systems
  • Experience operating light vehicles within an open cut mining environment
