Moolarben Coal mine is Australia’s largest thermal coal producer and has both Underground and Open cut operations producing over 21 million tpa. It has over 800 employees with employees residing in the beautiful Mudgee area, with all the facilities for a fantastic family lifestyle.

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

The Heath, Safety & Training Manager will report directly to the site General Manager and be responsible for providing strategic leadership across the Moolarben Complex (Open Cut, Underground and CHPP sites) and drive continuous improvement in health, safety, training & risk management practices.

 

The key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the site’s Health, Safety & Training function and provide expert advice across all operational areas.
  • Develop, implement and monitor safety management systems, policies and procedures.
  • Foster a strong safety culture through visible leadership, coaching and engagement with all stakeholders.
  • Oversee incident investigations, risk assessments and audits to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory obligations and company standards.
  • Collaborate with operational leaders to embed safety standards into daily practices and operational planning.

Skills and Experience

  • Formal Qualifications in Work, Health & Safety or related discipline.
  • Proven experience in a safety management role within mining or heavy industry
  • Strong knowledge of mining safety legislation, risk management & auditing processes
  • Excellent communication, leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to engage all levels of the workforce.
  • A proven commitment to driving a proactive safety-first culture.
  • Passion for coaching, mentoring and building leadership capability within the onsite safety team.
