Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Based at Moolarben Coal Operations, we are offering an exciting opportunity for a Communication Specialist within the Open Cut Maintenance Department. Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, you will be responsible for:

  • Conducting audits of all networks and communication systems at Moolarben and developing actions to remove risk and continually improve.
  • Lead new technology projects on site.
  • Project manage the new FMS (Fleet Management) implementation program.
  • Lead, train and mentor our communication technicians and auto electricians within the Maintenance Department.   

Skills and Experience

Essential Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualification, trade qualification or equivalent experience in communications electrotechnology, or digital radio field.
  • 2-3 years demonstrated experience in relevant or equivalent role within an industrial or mining environment.
  • Experience in supporting Digital Trunked Radio Systems (TETRA, DMR, P25), including server support and maintenance.
  • Experience in configuration of Cisco and Moxa equipment, fault diagnosis, and rectification of IP networks.
  • Experience using Fleet Management, Fatigue Management and GPS systems.

Strong knowledge of RF, Wireless fundamentals, and antenna systems.

Ability to effectively problem solve, diagnose and resolve (including root cause analysis)

Desirable Criteria:

  • Knowledge of Fuel Management systems and maintenance
  • Configuration and installation of wireless PTP microwave links
  • Previous experience with installation and maintenance of CCTV systems
  • ACMA cabling licence with fibre, structured and coax endorsement
  • Experience in configuring and maintaining network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, PRTG)
