Cameby Downs is a small open-cut thermal coal mine in the Surat Basin of southern Queensland, positioned between Chinchilla and Miles. Managed by Yancoal, the site employs around 230 personnel who foster a strong culture of teamwork and collaboration. Located just 3.5 hours from Brisbane, it’s an ideal option for residential or DIDO. We are seeking an experienced Senior Mining Engineer with a strong focus on Drill and Blast operations. This role is critical in optimizing blasting performance and ensuring safe, efficient production.

 

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, you will be part of a dynamic and motivated team. The role will require you to; 

•    Promote and maintain compliance with the Cameby Downs Safety & Health Management System

•    Manage an effective Mine Planning System

•    Assume a leading role in strategic improvement of mining methods and systems

•    Assume responsibility of mid and long term planning

•    Providing guidance and input into the pit design process

•    Develop and implement drill and blast designs to achieve optimal frargmentation and cost efficiency

•    Monitor blast performance and recommend continuous improvements.

•    Completing the end of month reconciliations and reporting process

•    Preparing inputs for the control budget process

•    Providing guidance and technical support to other site engineers 
 

Skills and Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or related discipline.
  • Ideally 5–10 years’ experience at an operational open-cut coal mine site.
  • Proficiency in drill and blast operations and design software (e.g., Deswik, Blast Logic).
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to drive and lead multiple stakeholders.
  • High-level analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly developed skills in mining software packages and engineering practice.
