About the Role
We are seeking an authentic and inspiring Maintenance Superintendent to lead the Yarrabee Mine Maintenance Department. This role offers a rare opportunity to influence the future of maintenance performance through strong leadership, innovation and a commitment to continuous improvement. Reporting to the Maintenance & CHPP Manager, you will lead the maintenance function across both mobile, field and ancillary assets, ensuring safe, reliable and cost effective maintenance outcomes that support the Yarrabee’s business objectives.
Leading a team of approximately 90 personnel, including 10 direct reports, you will have significant influence over the performance, culture and future direction of the maintenance department. This role requires a leader who can build trust, develop people, challenge traditional ways of working and create an environment where safety, reliability and continuous improvement are genuinely embedded into everyday behaviours.
What You'll Be Accountable For
Safety & Leadership
- Lead by example to create a culture where safety is owned by everyone and demonstrated through behaviours, not just compliance.
- Drive meaningful risk reduction initiatives that improve field safety outcomes and eliminate exposure to critical risks.
- Ensure compliance with Queensland Coal Mining legislation and the site's Safety and Health Management System.
- Lead incident investigations with a focus on learning, accountability and sustainable improvement.
- Build trust through authentic leadership, transparency and consistency.
Operational Excellence & Reliability
- Deliver efficient maintenance performance through a relentless focus on equipment reliability, availability and maintenance efficiency.
- Challenge existing practices and identify opportunities to improve systems, processes and work execution.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement where teams actively seek better ways of working.
- Utilise data, performance metrics and asset health information to support sound operational decision-making.
Customer & Stakeholder Focus
- Foster strong partnerships with operational teams and ensure maintenance is recognised as a trusted business partner.
- Promote a customer focused mindset where maintenance teams understand and support the needs of those operating the equipment.
- Work collaboratively across departments to balance production, maintenance and safety outcomes.
- Build constructive relationships with contractors, suppliers and key stakeholders.
Financial & Contractor Management
- Manage departmental budgets and resources with strong commercial discipline.
- Identify and deliver cost optimisation opportunities without compromising safety, reliability or quality.
- Ensure contractor performance aligns with site expectations and delivers measurable value.
People & Culture
- Develop a high performing team culture founded on trust, accountability, respect and teamwork.
- Lead, coach and develop supervisors and frontline leaders to build organisational capability.
- Create an environment where people feel empowered to contribute ideas, challenge respectfully and drive improvement.
- Actively contribute to a unified leadership team that is aligned, collaborative and committed to supporting one another.
What You Bring
We're seeking a leader who combines strong maintenance expertise with outstanding leadership capability and a genuine desire to improve both people and performance.
You will demonstrate:
- Extensive experience leading maintenance teams within open cut mining or other heavy industry environments.
- A proven track record of improving safety, reliability, availability and maintenance efficiency.
- Strong knowledge of mobile plant maintenance, reliability and asset management practices.
- The ability to use data, metrics and structured problem-solving techniques to drive decision making and business improvement.
- A collaborative leadership style built on trust, authenticity and accountability.
- The courage to challenge the status quo and lead positive change.
- Strong commercial acumen with experience managing budgets, contracts and business performance.
- A visible and engaging leadership presence with a passion for developing people and building strong teams.
Qualifications
- A tertiary engineering qualification or relevant trade qualification
- Supervisor Competency (S123)
- Current QLD Driver’s Licence
