Owned and Operated by Yancoal Australia, Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW) is an open cut mine that provides the opportunity to live and work locally. Located 15 kilometres south-west of Singleton in the beautiful Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, MTW relies on both dragline and load haul systems for their continuous operations. The MTW Mine is the largest open cut operation in the region, employing approximately 1,450 people who reside in the local and surrounding communities.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities
This position is responsible for design and scheduling activities within the Short-Term planning horizon, requiring strong collaboration and engagement with Operations.
You will join a Technical Services team responsible for short, medium and long-term mine planning, drill and blast engineering, pit geology and survey. Our planning scope and close relationship with Mine Operations allows us to support our people to develop their skills and reach their potential.
Reporting to the Short-Term Planning Superintendent, you will be part of a successful Technical Services team that enjoy what they do and value each other’s contributions. The role will require:
- Direct involvement in the development of daily, weekly and monthly plans for the Dragline and Prestrip teams;
- Liaise and engage with the operational teams to ensure delivery of the plan;
- Coach and Mentor other engineers and graduates;
- Ensure compliance to legislative requirements and site standards;
- Apply a continuous improvement methodology to all that you do.
Skills and Experience

To be successful in the role you will also display the following skills and attributes:
- A bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or in a related discipline.
- Experience with CAD design or scheduling software packages such as Deswik, Minex, Vulcan, Spry etc.
- An eye for detail and an ability to develop practical and achievable mine designs and schedules.
- Strong communication and time management skills.
- Stakeholder management skills.
- Leadership, mentoring and coaching skills.
- Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint skills.
- NSW driver’s license (manual).
