Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Yancoal MTW is currently seeking an experienced and motivated Mining Engineer to join our team. You will be a part of our Technical Services team who are responsible for short, medium and long term mine planning, drill and blast engineering, pit geology and survey.  Our planning scope and close relationship with Mine Operations allows us to support our people to develop their skills and reach their potential.

In this position, you will be responsible for delivering quality engineering outputs through designing, monitoring and communicating effective mine designs and schedules.  This role requires strong involvement, communication and engagement with our operations. The Medium-Term Planning Mining Engineer will develop and provide optimised designs and schedules for Mine Plans with a 6-18-month planning horizon.

Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer and working a Monday – Friday roster, you will be part of a successful team that enjoy what they do and value each other’s contributions. The role will require:

  • Complete pit, strips, dumps, roads and infrastructure design for the 6-18 month horizon to a high standard within design guidelines and as allocated;
  • Generate coal and waste reserves using the latest survey data and geological model to accompany the completed design;
  • Reconcile actual performance against design/plan and understand variances;
  • Generate monthly SRF schedules to deliver business targets within the required timeframes.

Essential Criteria:

  • A Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or in a related engineering discipline;
  • Previous experience in mine planning within an Open Cut Coal Mining environment;
  • Experience with CAD design software packages such as Deswik, shot plus, or Vulcan;
  • An eye for detail and an ability to develop practical and achievable mine designs and schedules;
  • Strong communication and time management skills;
  • Ability to manage stakeholders at all levels;
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint skills;
  • NSW driver’s license.

Desirable criteria:

  • Experience with Deswik design software for open cut mine design.
