Owned and Operated by Yancoal Australia, Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW) is an open cut mine that provides the opportunity to live and work locally. Located 15 kilometres south-west of Singleton in the beautiful Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, MTW relies on both dragline and load haul systems for their continuous operations. The MTW Mine is the largest open cut operation in the region, employing approximately 1,450 people who reside in the local and surrounding communities.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities
Yancoal MTW is currently seeking an experienced and motivated Mine Geologist to join the team on a 12-month fixed term contract. Reporting to the Superintendent Mine Geology, you will be part of a highly skilled, supportive Technical Services team contributing to the success of MTW. The team enjoy what they do and value each other’s contributions. The Mine Geologist role is a critical member of the team and provides geological support to both the Technical Services team and Operational teams. The role requires:
• Daily coal quality control and horizon management.
• Provision of support for production teams to ensure best practice mining hygiene and maximum resource recovery.
• Optimise productivity and deliver value via the interpretation and distribution of geological data.
• Mining reconciliation to support Mine Planning processes.
• Provide guidance to Logistics and Coal Preparation Plant on coal delivery and quality parameters.
• Geological and geotechnical hazard identification.
• Lead a safe culture environment with a focus on driving safe behaviors at all times.

Essential Criteria:
• Tertiary qualifications in Geology / Geoscience or relevant industry experience in coal geology.
• Experience in the coal industry in a multi seam environment.
• Experience driving in pit with Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) and hierarchy rules.
• High proficiency in the interpretation and analysis of coal quality data.
• Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in coal reconciliation, coal recovery, loss, dilution and washability.
• Knowledge of the mine planning process and understanding of where each geological function adds value.
• Excellent communication both written and verbal with strong stakeholder engagement.
• Results focused with a continuous improvement attitude.
• Australian Drivers Licence.
Desirable criteria:
• Experience with Minescape, Deswik or mine planning software.
• Experience in resource modelling.
• Experience with geotechnical assessments and implemented controls.
