Owned and Operated by Yancoal Australia, Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW) is one of the largest open pit operations in the area. Located 15 kilometres south-west of Singleton in the beautiful Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, MTW relies on both draglines and load haul systems as the current and preferred mining method. Our site operates continuously 24 hours a day, seven days a week and has a long and proud history, employing approximately 1350 people from local and surrounding communities, who are our most valuable asset. 

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Superintendent Mine Geology, you will be a part of a dynamic and motivated team. The role will require:
•    Perform slope stability analysis and interpretation of short-, medium-term and Life of Mine plans
•    Perform pit inspections, geotechnical hazard identification and provide recommendations for hazard mitigation to ensure operational safety
•    Investigation of ground related issues and conduct geotechnical reconciliations 
•    Review, update and optimise geotechnical processes and design guidelines
•    Maintain the Geotechnical database and provide advice on geotechnical sampling regimes 
•    Ad hoc Geotechnical projects

To be successful in the role you will also display the following skills and attributes:

 

Essential Criteria:
•    Tertiary qualifications in Geotechnical Engineering or related degree
•    Experience in the mining industry preferably the coal sector
•    Proficiency with the RocScience suite of software products
•    Proficiency with Deswik or similar Mine Planning Software
•    Ability to develop strong stakeholder relationship and clearly communicate geotechnical information 
•    Excellent communication and time management skills
•    Demonstrate strong attention to detail and due diligence on technical work
•    Results focused, highly motivated with a continuous improvement attitude

 

Desirable criteria:
•    Experience with Maptek Point Studio 
•    Use and understanding of Geotechnical monitoring tools
•    Ability to conduct geotechnical training to operational personnel
•    Experience with risk management including facilitation of Risk Assessments
