COMMERCIAL MANAGER

Reporting directly to the General Manager - MTW, this diverse position plays an integral role within the Senior Leadership Team. The Commercial Manager is a key influencer in developing and executing MTW’s commercial strategy whilst overseeing financial and warehousing activities to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and the delivery of long-term value.

We are Australia’s largest pure-play coal producer generating over $10 billion in Foreign Direct Investment; owning, operating or participating in coal mines across NSW, Queensland and Western Australia. 

Owned and Operated by Yancoal Australia, Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW) is an open cut mine that provides the opportunity to live and work locally. Located 15 kilometres south-west of Singleton in the beautiful Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, MTW relies on both dragline and load haul systems for their continuous operations. The MTW Mine is the largest open cut operation in the region, employing approximately 1,450 people who reside in the local and surrounding communities.

 

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Working closely with the onsite team, joint venture stakeholders and the wider Yancoal Group this role fosters strong commercial collaboration that supports safe, efficient, and sustainable operations in a fast-paced environment. 


You’ll provide strategic insight, commercial governance, and leadership to a high-performing team to optimise performance and drive operational excellence. You will thrive in a large, complex and dynamic operation that invests in its people, encourages innovation, and celebrates success. 


This position will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a 12-month period, with the possibility of extension.

To be successful in the role you will also display the following skills and attributes:

•    Relevant degree in Accounting, Commerce or similar;
•    Chartered Accountant or Certified Practising Accountant qualification or equivalent;
•    Extensive leadership experience in a heavy industry environment;
•    In depth knowledge of current Australian GAAP;
•    Knowledge of business improvement methods and demonstrated experience of driving improvement;
•    Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills;
•    Numerical analysis and data validation skills;
•    Solution driven customer service;
•    Strategic and conceptual thinking skills.
