Owned and Operated by Yancoal Australia, Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW) is one of the largest open pit operations in the area. Located 15 kilometres south-west of Singleton in the beautiful Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, MTW relies on both draglines and load haul systems as the current and preferred mining method. Our site operates continuously 24 hours a day, seven days a week and has a long and proud history, employing approximately 1350 people from local and surrounding communities, who are our most valuable asset.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities
Yancoal MTW are seeking an enthusiastic and driven CHPP Production Technician (Electrical) to work a 12 hour day shift only roster (requirement to work rotating day / night roster for leave coverage as needed). Reporting to the CHPP Production Supervisor, your primary responsibilities will be to operate all areas of the Coal Preparation plant in line with production schedules and oversee training competencies of crew members. The role will also require you to:
- Operate and monitor the preparation plant to optimise production and quality at all times;
- Provide a timely response to operational and maintenance issues to ensure targets are met;
- Inspect and monitor coal processing;
- Complete allocated preventative maintenance tasks and inspections as assigned;
- Maintain cleanliness of all areas of the CHPP;
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives including production and safety improvements;
- Crew training and assessing;
- Perform Step-up Supervisor role as required.
Skills and Experience

To be successful in the role you will also display the following skills and attributes:
- Electrical Trade Qualification;
- Sound knowledge of operating systems specific to the CHPP;
- Ability to communicate effectively by sharing knowledge with others and helping the team;
- Pro-active approach to problem solving with the ability to work well under pressure;
- Industry relevant qualifications (High Risk licenses);
- Sound computer literacy, preferably with an understanding of SAP;
- Trainer & Assessor qualification highly regarded or willingness to obtain;
- Previous supervisory experience.
Along with strong technical knowledge you will also possess strong work ethic, proven commitment to safety, ability to work in a dynamic team and have a ‘can do’ approach to work challenges. You must have a commitment to continuous improvement whilst meeting environmental standards.
