Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Production Manager, you will provide visible leadership across the operation, ensuring the highest standards of safety, risk management, operational discipline and workforce engagement are maintained. 

 

You will be a proactive leader who can effectively manage competing priorities, make sound decisions in dynamic operational environments and drive positive outcomes through strong leadership and effective communication. You will be committed to a culture where hazards are identified, risks are controlled and people are empowered to work safely and efficiently.

 

  • Providing clear leadership and direction to Deputies, Crew Leaders and operational personnel.
  • Promoting and embedding effective risk management practices, ensuring critical controls are identified, implemented and verified in the workplace.
  • Driving a positive safety culture through visible leadership, workforce engagement and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Responding to operational challenges, incidents and TARPs in a timely and effective manner, ensuring appropriate controls and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Coaching and developing frontline leaders to build capability, accountability and high performance across crews.
  • Allocating Deputies to mine districts in compliance with statutory requirements and the Mine Inspection System.
  • Ensuring compliance with all statutory obligations, management plans and operational standards.
  • Conducting workplace inspections and audits to verify compliance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Leading effective start of shift, toolbox and debrief meetings that communicate expectations and drive operational alignment.
  • Monitoring operational performance and implementing practical solutions to address production and safety challenges.
  • Ensuring work is completed to the required standards while achieving safety, compliance and production objectives.
  • Completing detailed shift reports and reviewing statutory and production reports for accuracy and compliance.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in Underground including longwall Mining.
  • NSW 2nd Class (Undermanager’s) certificate of competency + current practicing certificate.
  • Diploma Underground Coal Mine Management (Undermanager).
  • Cert IV OH&S Workplace Safety (desirable).
  • Significant people leadership experience.
  • Ability to promote a positive safety culture within the mine.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Sound planning, organisation and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet production targets.
