Job Tasks and Responsibilities
Yancoal's operations span multiple sites with differing asset types and maturity of sustainability initiatives and data systems. Increasing expectations from regulators, investors, employees and communities require sustainability reporting that is timely, consistent, accurate and defensible.
This role sits at the centre of that requirement, ensuring reporting is not simply "published", but actively supports delivery by clearly identifying progress, risks, and support needs to keep the Company's P4 Sustainability Strategy and climate initiatives on track.
The Sustainability Reporting Officer will support external sustainability disclosure requirements and coordinate the collection, analysis and reporting of progress and performance outcomes for sustainability initiatives across Yancoal's owned and operated sites, in alignment with Yancoal's P4 Sustainability Strategy.
Reporting to the Sustainability Manager, this role aims to develop a sustainability data driven culture by ensuring sustainability performance is measurable, comparable, auditable and purposeful. This is to be achieved through:
- Maintaining a clear view of the sustainability project portfolio status (progress, benefits, risks, dependencies, support needs).
- Establishing and maintaining clear governance frameworks for reporting quality, timelines and evidence across sites; coach site contributors on definitions, controls, and "what good looks like".
- Modelling Yancoal values, promote integrity in reporting and fostering a culture where sustainability data and performance are treated as operationally critical.
- Supporting the delivery of best practice sustainability reporting to ensure mandatory disclosure obligations are met.
- Owning sustainability reporting cadence and governance (monthly/quarterly/annual).
- Uplifting and maintaining sustainability data quality, definitions, controls and evidence management across sites.
- Maintaining reporting datasets and dashboards, ensuring single source of truth and controlled access.
- Supporting internal and external climate and decarbonisation reporting (including abatement progress and roadmap delivery) and preparing materials for leadership, governance forums and external disclosures.
- Analysing sustainability and climate-related data to identify trends, risks and opportunities to support management decision-making and assurance validation.
Skills and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Sustainability, Environmental Science/Management, Data/Analytics, Finance, Engineering, Business, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Desirable: training in sustainability/climate reporting and/or assurance; project reporting or governance training.
- Relevant experience in reporting, performance analytics, sustainability, ESG, audit, risk, finance performance or operational reporting—ideally in mining, heavy industry or similarly regulated environments.
- Exposure to sustainability/climate performance metrics (greenhouse gases, energy, water, waste, rehabilitation, compliance), including evidence-based reporting.
- High data literacy: advanced Excel; experience with dashboards/BI tools (desirable); ability to define metrics and improve data quality.
- Understanding of greenhouse gas and sustainability metrics for Australian businesses (NGER/Safeguard/AASB S2, baseline concepts, emissions factors, methodologies—practical level).
- Strong written communication: ability to produce executive-ready reports with clear narratives.
- Stakeholder management without direct authority; confident in follow-up, escalation and alignment.
- Ability to travel to sites periodically and build strong working relationships with site teams.
