Located 14 km northwest of Singleton, Ashton underground mine has been operational for nearly 20 years. The mine produces semi-soft coking coal for export through the Port of Newcastle, for use in the steel manufacturing industry and thermal coal for power generation. Ashton employs approximately 300 people across our surface and underground operations. 

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, this is a full-time fixed-term opportunity that will see the successful applicant play a key role in the planning and delivery of mining engineering projects and activities including but not limited to:
• Medium to long-term planning for a variety of surface and underground projects at a multi-seam longwall mine producing semi-soft coking coal
• Mine scheduling with responsibility for monthly and annual forecasts using both Excel and XPAC software
• Whole-of-Mine reporting (life-of-mine and mine closure)
• Mine design (AutoCAD, ProgeCAD)
• Project work such as ventilation and gas drainage, subsidence remediation and mine dewatering 

Skills and Experience

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering (essential)
• Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role at an underground coal mine
• Experience and competence with Microsoft Project, XPAC, Excel and AutoCAD
• Ventilation Officer qualification is highly desirable
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Team player with strong leadership skills
