Located 15 kilometres south-west of Singleton in the beautiful Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, MTW relies on both dragline and load haul systems for their continuous operations. The MTW Mine is the largest open cut operation in the region, employing approximately 1,450 people who reside in the local and surrounding communities.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities
This role reports to the site Health and Safety Superintendent. As the Safety Advisor, you will support all safety and risk related tasks across site whilst ensuring alignment to the Yancoal values and behaviours. In particular, you will be required to:
- Partner with line leaders to facilitate the implementation and continual improvement of all aspects of safety processes including risk assessments/audits/inspections, hazard reporting, accident/incident investigations reporting.
- Support managers in ensuring relevant contractors and employees comply with the site’s safety and health management system and relevant legislation.
- Play an active part in the continuous improvement of safety onsite via targeted projects in response to incident findings and feedback from the workforce.

To succeed in this role, you will also display the following skills and attributes:
Essential Criteria:
- Qualifications in Occupational Health & Safety or Workplace Health & Safety (Minimum Certificate IV) or similar.
- Incident Investigation Qualifications (Taproot/Essential Factors/I-cam).
- RIIRIS402D - Carry out the risk management processes and risk assessment facilitation experience.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety standards / legislation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience of improving safety culture.
- Mining experience, preferably Open-Cut Coal Mining or Heavy Industry experience.
Desirable Criteria:
- Workplace drug and alcohol testing accreditation.
- Pegasus system experience.
- Mental health awareness training.
