Located 14km northwest of Singleton, Ashton Underground Mine has been operational for over 20 years. The mine produces semi-soft coking coal for export through the Port of Newcastle, for use in the steel manufacturing industry and thermal coal for power generation. Ashton employs approximately 330 people across the surface and underground operations. 

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the shift Undermanager, the successful applicant will be responsible for:

 

  • Supervising the installation, commissioning, maintenance and repair of all electrical plant & equipment on site
  • Conducting effective preventative & scheduled maintenance and fault-finding work on underground electrical systems
  • Monitoring electrical equipment to ensure it remains fit for purpose, functional and in a safe condition

Skills and Experience

To be successful in securing this role, you will be able to demonstrate the following:

 

  • Minimum 2 years Underground Coal Mining experience in a similar role (essential)
  • Electrical Trade Qualification and Certificate of Proficiency (essential)
  • Qualifications in Maintenance of Electrical Equipment for Hazardous Areas (highly desirable)
  • Experience maintaining Underground Mining Equipment including Conveyor Systems, Joy Development Equipment, CT/DBT Longwall Equipment and Explosive Protected Diesel Plant (SMV, PJB, Jug-A-O)
  • High level communication & influencing skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an unwavering commitment to safety
  • A positive attitude and willingness to contribute to continuous improvement 
  • Knowledge of Coal Mining WHS legislation requirements (desirable)
