Located 14km northwest of Singleton, Ashton Underground Mine has been operational for over 20 years. The mine produces semi-soft coking coal for export through the Port of Newcastle, for use in the steel manufacturing industry and thermal coal for power generation. Ashton employs approximately 330 people across the surface and underground operations. 

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

We are currently seeking an experienced Leading Hand to join the Mobile Maintenance Workshop at the CHPP. Reporting to the Mobile Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, the successful applicant will be responsible for:

 

  • Completing planned maintenance tasks and breakdown repairs on the CHPP mobile fleet
  • Providing support and supervision to mobile maintenance team including contractors
  • Support the Mobile Fleet Maintenance Supervisor with day to day tasks and provide coverage for periods of leave
  • Operate mobile equipment to meet the operational needs of the business as required

Skills and Experience

To be successful in securing this role, you will possess the following:

 

  • Mechanical Trade Qualification (essential)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the mining or heavy industry in a similar role (essential)
  • Previous supervisory experience in a production or maintenance environment (essential)
  • Previous experience working with surface mobile equipment specifically haul trucks, dozers, loaders and light vehicles (essential)
  • Ability to effectively problem solve and diagnose machine faults/breakdowns
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • SAP and OEM parts interpretation experience (advantageous)
  • Safety conscious with a can-do attitude
  • Willingness to continue working on the tools in addition to leading hand tasks
