Job Tasks and Responsibilities

About the role

 

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our team.  Based on site at Moolarben Coal Operations and reporting to the Commercial Superintendent, you will be a part of the Complex Commercial team. This role presents an exciting opportunity to support a large mining operation, with exposure to both Open Cut and Underground mining operations. Working closely with operational departments, you will play an integral role in providing commercial guidance to drive a sustainable, cost-effective business. You will get exposure to management accounting, budgeting and forecasting, business process improvement projects and business partnering.

 

Key responsibilities:

 

  • Preparation of month end accounts and management reporting
  • Drive financial controls in line with company policy and accounting standards.
  • Key contributor to cost build up, analysis and other information for the monthly forecast and annual budgeting process. 
  • Cost reporting and analysis to support sound business decisions and drive business efficiency
  • Partner with operational departments to support commercial decision making.
  • Facilitate cost review meetings with department leads, including identifying key variances to budget and providing recommendations for improvement. 
  • Support asset management process including assisting in the preparation of capital expenditure requests and ensuring timely capitalisation of completed projects. 
  • General ledger and asset register maintenance.

Skills and Experience

About You

 

  • Minimum 5 years post qualification experience – mining or heavy industry experience preferred.
  • CPA or CA qualified.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including an outcome focused mindset and the ability to communicate effectively and influence leaders.
  • Commercial mindset and able to look for opportunities to improve and create efficiencies
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Systems savvy with experience using complex, multi-faceted systems
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy and organisation skills

 

The successful applicant must be willing to live within 100km of the mine.
