Cameby Downs is a small open-cut thermal coal mine in the Surat Basin of southern Queensland, Managed by Yancoal and positioned between Chinchilla and Miles. The site employs around 230 personnel who are committed to fostering a strong culture of teamwork and collaboration. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Site Accountant to join our finance team at a dynamic coal mining operation. This role is ideal for an experienced accountant who is eager to thrive in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will support the site commercial function including: financial, budgeting, compliance, and process improvement initiatives while demonstrating a proactive attitude and strong ownership of their work.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities
We are offering an exciting opportunity for a proactive and motivated person to join our Commercial team based onsite at Cameby Downs Mine.
- Prepare with month-end and year-end financial reporting, including journal entries and GL reconciliations.
- Maintain accurate records of fixed assets and assist with asset audits.
- Managing capital, asset management, compliance, and government returns.
- Conduct cost reporting analysis and communicate with managers and supervisors with transparency of costs.
- Co-ordinate cost review meetings with department leads and supervisors
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in preparation of budget and forecast.
- Liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders as needed.
- Take initiative in identifying and resolving discrepancies or inefficiencies.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of financial systems and processes.
- Support on other ad-hoc finance and administrative tasks as required.
Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- At least 2 years work experience (Preferred in Mining sector)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; Experience in using ERP system (SAP) is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Proactive and self-motivated with a strong sense of accountability.
- Demonstrates high standards of integrity, ethics, and professionalism.
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders.
