Job Tasks and Responsibilities
We are seeking a proactive Maintenance Supervisor who is a hands-on leader dedicated to ensuring the smooth operation of our facilities. This role involves leading a skilled team to maintain safety, efficiency, and full functionality across all operations.
- Supervise daily maintenance activities across mobile plant to ensure equipment reliability, availability, and safety.
- Lead and support a team of tradespeople (fitters, electricians, boilermakers, etc.) to deliver planned and unplanned maintenance tasks effectively.
- Coordinate preventative and breakdown maintenance, ensuring minimal disruption to production operations.
- Monitor work quality, safety, and compliance with site policies, procedures, and legislative requirements (e.g., Coal Mining Safety and Health Act & Regulations).
- Ensure accurate maintenance records are completed in the CMMS (SAP).
- Identify and report equipment issues or improvement opportunities, escalating as needed to reduce downtime and increase efficiency.
- Collaborate with planning and scheduling teams to ensure work is resourced, prioritised, and completed on time.
- Conduct pre-start meetings, toolbox talks, and safety inspections to reinforce a strong safety culture.
- Mentor and coach team members, fostering a skilled, engaged, and safety-focused workforce.
- Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives, contributing to the reliability strategy of the department.
- Ensure contractor compliance when overseeing external trades or service providers.
- Manage inventory levels for critical spares and consumables to prevent delays during maintenance activities.
Skills and Experience
- Trade qualification (Heavy diesel)
- Previous supervisory or leading hand experience in a heavy industrial, mining, or similar environment – ideally 5+ years.
- Strong knowledge of mobile plant equipment, including diagnostics, maintenance practices, and reliability principles.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to motivate, coach, and manage a diverse team safely and effectively.
- Sound understanding of mining safety legislation and compliance requirements (e.g., CMSH Act & Regulations).
- Experience with maintenance planning systems and Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (e.g., SAP, Pronto) – desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments and shifts.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, particularly under pressure or during breakdowns.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement, with a proactive approach to hazard identification and risk management.
- Current Standard 11 and Coal Board Medical, or ability to obtain.
- High-risk work licenses or site machinery competencies (e.g., EWP, CN, DG, Forklift, Working at Heights) – advantageous.
