Managed by Yancoal, Premier Coal is the leading coal producer in Western Australia. Operating an open cut coal mine near Collie in the South West of WA, the operation produces more than 3 million tonnes of coal per year for domestic supply.
We are currently seeking a Senior Mining Engineer to join our team at Premier Coal on a rotating 8/6 roster - 10.5hr days.
About the Role
Reporting to the Mine Planning Superintendent, you will be a part of a dynamic and motivated Technical Services team.
This role is responsible for carrying out safe and optimal drill and blast along with some short-term planning/scheduling tasks.
Key aspects of a Senior Mining Engineer at Premier Coal;
- Ensure implementation and compliance of the weekly drill & blast plan along with site Safety Health and Environmental standards to ensure safe and sustainable mine standards.
- Use your skills to design and develop rolling weekly drill & blast plans and schedules for the mining operation.
- Ensure all equipment and frontline supervisors have up-to-date data packs, designs and information required to support operations.
- Provide technical support to the mining operation through Short Term mine designs and schedules.
- Ensure design process is followed for all designs and ensure design amendments to suit operational requirements are communicated to all key stakeholders.
- Coordinate plans, schedules and monitoring of actual progress with benchmarks.
- Prepare and submit daily and weekly production plans, reports and summaries.
- Ensure drilling and blasting operations are carried out in a cost-effective manner, oversee blasting consumables to control budget and cost.
- Utilise your skills to continually aim for innovative solutions and support standardising site Technical Services processes.
About You
- Ideally you will have a Tertiary Qualification in Mining Engineering or similar technical discipline
- You will have a strategic mindset and possess strong communication, organisation and stakeholder management skills
- A minimum 3 years’ experience in Technical Roles within the Mining Industry
- Previous experience in Operational Planning encompassing short term, medium term and drill and blast planning
- Highly developed skills pertaining to mining software packages and engineering practices (Vulcan, BlastLogic, Deswik, Spry)
