Yancoal Australia is one of Australia’s largest pure play coal producers. It boasts three tier one thermal coal mines in New South Wales together with interests in three other metallurgical and thermal coal mines located in New South Wales and Queensland.  Yancoal Australia also manages five other Australian coal mines on behalf of related parties. Our Ashton Coal Operations include an underground mine and coal handling and preparation plant, located in Camberwell.  The site operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Mining Supervisor, this role will be responsible for operating and maintaining underground equipment to meet production targets in accordance with mine standards.

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Utilise underground experience and skillset to work across Outbye, Development and/or Longwall districts as required
  • Proactively contribute to the safety of the team and mine by identifying risks and hazards
  • Supporting improvement initiatives by making suggestions or improvements that would benefit the mine and business
  • Encouraging and modelling good housekeeping and equipment care behaviours
  • Attend and participate effectively in crew training days every 6 weeks

Skills and Experience

  • Experience and qualifications operating Underground Machinery (essential)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the same or similar role (essential)
  • High level experience working in an Underground Coal Mining environment with a detailed knowledge and understanding of Development, Longwall and support services
  • Ability and willingness to work effectively as part of a team
  • Strong safety mindset with excellent hazard identification skills and a willingness to participate in relevant safety tasks
