We are Australia’s largest pure-play coal producer generating over $10 billion in Foreign Direct Investment; owning, operating or participating in coal mines across NSW, Queensland and Western Australia.

Located 14km northwest of Singleton, Ashton underground mine has been operational for nearly 20 years. The mine produces semi-soft coking coal for export through the Port of Newcastle, for use in the steel manufacturing industry and thermal coal for power generation. Ashton employs approximately 330 people across our surface and underground operations. 

 

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the shift Undermanager, the successful applicant will be required to:

  • Manage, plan and organise resources for your area of responsibility
  • Maintaining and enforcing regulations, standards and systems of work developed for the mine to deliver a safe and productive crew performance
  • Work closely with the Engineering team to ensure all aspects of maintenance operators are implemented to maximise equipment availability

Applicants must have a commitment to safety, be a self-starter, proactive, results orientated and focused on maintaining the high standards in place at Ashton Coal. 

Skills and Experience

To be successful in securing this role, you will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Minimum 2 years' in a leadership role at an Underground Coal Mine (essential)
  • Certificate of Competence - Deputy (essential)
  • Proven commitment to safety and experience effectively leading a team
  • Sound knowledge of the Coal Mining Health & Safety Legislation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to positively influence and negotiate direct reports
