We are Australia’s largest pure-play coal producer generating over $10 billion in Foreign Direct Investment; owning, operating or participating in coal mines across NSW, Queensland and Western Australia. 

Located 14km northwest of Singleton, Ashton underground mine has been operational for nearly 20 years. The mine produces semi-soft coking coal for export through the Port of Newcastle, for use in the steel manufacturing industry and thermal coal for power generation. Ashton employs approximately 330 people across our surface and underground operations. 

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

The role of Mining Engineering Manager is to develop, supervisor, monitor and review the mining engineering standards and procedures relating to the mining operations at Ashton Coal Operation. This is an opportunity to drive strategic initiatives and support a high-performing team. The successful applicant's leadership will be instrumental in optimising performance and ensuring long-term success. This position reports directly to the site Operations Manager. 

Some key responsibilities include:
•    Champion safe work practices and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations
•    Manage and review effective standards for statutory inspections, communication and reporting
•    Engage with Statutory Regulators and Industry Safety and Health Representatives as required
•    Cultivate positive relationships within site teams
•    Ensure detailed planning and scheduling to optimise production
•    Contribute to strategic growth and continuous improvement initiatives

Skills and Experience

  • NSW Mining Engineering Manager Certificate (or equivalent), or the ability to obtain one within 6 months
  • 10+ years mining experience, with a least 3 years in underground longwall mining (mandatory)
  • 5+ years in operational management and supervisory roles (mandatory)
  • Tertiary qualifications in mining engineering or related discipline (desirable)
  • Valid NSW explosive security clearance (formerly UHL) (desirable)
  • Valid Australian drivers licence
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, written and verbal communication
