We are Australia’s largest pure-play coal producer generating over $10 billion in Foreign Direct Investment; owning, operating or participating in coal mines across NSW, Queensland and Western Australia. Located 14km northwest of Singleton, Ashton underground mine has been operational for nearly 20 years. The mine produces semi-soft coking coal for export through the Port of Newcastle, for use in the steel manufacturing industry and thermal coal for power generation. Ashton employs approximately 330 people across our surface and underground operations. 

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the shift Undermanager, the successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Supervising the installation, commissioning, maintenance & repair of mechanical plant and equipment on site
  • Completing effective maintenance and fault-finding work on mechanical systems
  • Monitoring mechanical equipment to ensure it remains in a safe & fit for purpose condition in accordance with legislative and regulatory requirements

Skills and Experience

To be successful in securing this role, you will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Minimum 2 years Underground Coal Mining experience
  • Mechanical trade qualification and Certificate of Proficiency (mandatory)
  • Tertiary qualifications in Fluid Power (highly desirable)
  • RII09 – Explosion Protected Diesel Engine Systems Maintenance (highly desirable)
  • Hot Works training (highly desirable)
  • Working at Heights and Confined Space tickets (highly desirable)
  • Dogging High Risk Work Licence (highly desirable)
  • A strong commitment to safety with high level communication & influencing skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • A positive attitude towards and willingness to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives on site
  • Knowledge of Coal Mining WHS legislation requirements
