Yancoal Australia is one of Australia’s largest pure play coal producers. It boasts three tier one thermal coal mines in New South Wales together with interests in three other metallurgical and thermal coal mines located in New South Wales and Queensland.  Yancoal Australia also manages five other Australian coal mines on behalf of related parties. Yancoal currently employs over 4,000 people across its operations. Our Ashton Coal Operations include an underground mine and coal handling and preparation plant, located in Camberwell.  The site operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Geologist, the successful applicant will be part of the Technical Services Department and be responsible for:

 

  • Underground/Surface geological mapping
  • Assist with the maintenance of Ashton's geological model
  • Development of Underground Authority to Mine plans for Longwall and Development panels
  • Assist with tenement management and other JORC related work
  • Assist with Annual Exploration plans, associated drilling programs and other related activities

Skills and Experience

To be considered, you will be able to meet the following criteria:

 

  • A degree in Geology, Geoscience or Science (with a Geology Major)
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in Underground coal mining (essential)
  • Sound understanding of responsibilities in relation to the WH&S Mines & Petroleum Act and Regulations
  • Experience with Minex Geological modelling software (preferred)
  • Experience with AutoCAD software
  • Strong analytical and problem solving ability
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
