We are Australia’s largest pure-play coal producer generating over $10 billion in Foreign Direct Investment; owning, operating or participating in coal mines across NSW, Queensland and Western Australia. Located 14km northwest of Singleton, Ashton underground mine has been operational for nearly 20 years. The mine produces semi-soft coking coal for export through the Port of Newcastle, for use in the steel manufacturing industry and thermal coal for power generation. Ashton employs approximately 330 people across our surface and underground operations. 

 

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Working as part of the Technical Services team, you will provide your extensive gas drainage and contract management expertise to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the mine. The successful application will also be responsible for contributing to:

  • Gas drainage network design
  • Planning, scheduling and securing operational approvals
  • Effective management of contractors undertaking gas drainage tasks and ensure compliance with Ashton standards
  • Day to day management of the underground gas drainage process

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in underground mining (essential)
  • Underground gas drainage and surface gas drainage plant experience (essential)
  • High level knowledge of ventilation systems, plant & machinery and how to provide consistent maintenance, planning and servicing practices
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal with an ability to influence & negotiate effectively
  • Ability to build effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • SAP experience (desirable)
  • Mining Supervisor (Deputy) qualification (essential)
  • Ventilation Officer qualifications (desirable)
  • Unwavering commitment to safety with exceptional awareness & knowledge of relevant legislation
  • Strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
