Job Tasks and Responsibilities

The Senior HST Advisor will be responsible for supporting all departments in encouraging a safe work environment for all employees and contractors on site.
They will ensure Yarrabee’s obligations to our people and to the legislative framework are met with a primary focus on the SHMS. Furthermore, this position is to assist the Health Safety and Training (HST) Superintendent to deliver the transactional and tactical actions of the HST team.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Working knowledge of the Queensland Coal Mining Safety & Health legislation and Workplace Health and Safety legislation
  • Experienced with Information Technology systems (i.e. SAP, Intelex)
  • Previous experience working within a safety role preferably within the Coal Mining Industry (surface) providing safety leadership and technical support across multiple departments
  • Leading, coordinating, implementing and maintaining HST policies and procedures
  • Monitoring, reporting and identifying HST matters and assist with the continuous improvement of these coordinating inductions, audits, inspections and incident investigations and proposing new systems of work or equipment by assessing the applicability of suitable programs to enhance performance
  • Demonstrated experience in building relationships with regulatory bodies and senior personnel in relation to health, safety culture, safety systems compliance and associated matters
  • Experienced in conducting incident investigations, analysis and supporting supervisors to continuously improve investigation outcomes
  • Facilitation of risk assessments and update of current procedures and processes

 

In addition to the above, the successful candidate ideally would have the following qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualification in Diploma in OHS or relevant discipline
  • At least 5 years experience in Coal Mining (QLD Surface)
  • Mine Site Safety Supervisor qualifications (S1S2S3, G2 RIIRIS402E) ICAM Lead Investigator/Facilitator
  • BSB50920 - Diploma in Quality Auditing
