Workers Compensation and Workplace Health Specialist

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the General Manager Safety, this role will be challenging and require excellent stakeholder engagement skills. The responsibilities of this position include the following:
• Provide the strategic insight and oversight to manage the injury management and worker’s compensation function (premiums, injury claims, any associate litigation including nature and condition or common law claims)
• Lead, challenge, advocate and support the injury management and worker’s compensation processes, across Yancoal operations and the broader organisation where appropriate.
• Provide support to Yancoal operating sites for injury management, return to work and workers compensation processes.
• Coach, support and manage the more complex workers compensation cases and claims for both return to work injury claims and associated litigation, and common law claims. This may cover coordinating and supporting independent investigations.
• Coach, support and manage occupational hygiene programmes across the group
• Guide, develop, support and manage mental health and wellbeing strategies, programmes and functions.
 

Skills and Experience

Essential Criteria:
• Tertiary qualification in an associated discipline or equivalent
• Current open driver’s license
• Extensive previous experience demonstrating leadership in the following areas within a Mining or heavy industry environment;
   - Workers Compensation insurance premium management
   - Monitoring and setting strategic direction in injury management and return to work processes
   - Managing workers compensation systems


Desirable Criteria
• Industry experience in mental health strategies and workplace programs
• Industry experience in occupational health and hygiene strategies and workplace programs
• Demonstrated experience in building relationships with senior leaders in relation to injury management, return to work and workers compensation development and compliance and associated matters
• Working knowledge of Legislation, Australian Standards, Guidelines and Codes of Practice applicable to the Mining Industry and how these relate to effective injury management, return to work and workers compensation
