Environment & Community Superintendent

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

We are seeking a passionate Environment & Community Superintendent to join the team at Stratford Coal. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the responsibility of this role is to provide internal environmental advice, liaise with various stakeholders to ensure environmental compliance, provide assistance and support for the gaining of environmental approvals and to build effective relations with the community. You will be responsible for the leadership and mentoring of the Environment and Community team, ensuring the establishment of positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders and safeguarding commitment to the core business values of operating to the highest environmental and legislative standards in order to minimise the impact of our operations.


In particular, you will be required to:
•Develop and implement environmental strategies and action plans that ensure the operation complies with regulatory requirements;
•Support the corporate team in the procurement of major relevant regulatory approvals required for continued operations;
•Implement and progressively improve management plans to effectively manage environmental impacts on site;
•Identify, assess and reduce environmental risks onsite;
•Audit, analyse and report on environmental performance to internal and external stakeholders and regulatory bodies;
•Train staff at all levels in environmental issues and responsibilities;
•Build and maintain effective relationships with the community;
•Liaise effectively with external stakeholders such as government bodies and industry groups; and
•Manage and report on environmental incidents with support from the corporate team.

To succeed in this role, you will also display the following skills and attributes:

Essential Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science or related discipline;
  • Comprehensive experience in a Senior Environment & Community role within a similar environment;
  • Strong leadership, influencing and communication skills;
  • Experience and drive to mentor a team with diverse skills and experience to deliver outstanding environmental and community outcomes;
  • Experience liaising with government regulators, officials and community;
  • Strong knowledge of NSW Environmental Legislation as it applies to coal mining;
  • Experience in contract and project management;
  • Strength in stakeholder engagement;
  • Experience in community relations; and
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
