Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Yancoal MTW is currently seeking an experienced and motivated STP Mining Engineer to join our team. You will be a part of our Technical Services team who are responsible for short, medium and long term mine planning, drill and blast engineering, pit geology and survey.  Our planning scope and close relationship with Mine Operations allows us to support our people to develop their skills and reach their potential.

The mining engineer position is within the STP team. You will be responsible for delivering quality engineering outputs through designing, monitoring and communicating effective mine designs and schedules.  This role requires strong involvement, communication and engagement with our operations.

Reporting to the Short-Term Mine Planning Senior and working a Monday – Friday roster, you will be part of a successful team that enjoy what they do and value each other’s contributions. The role will require:

  • Direct involvement in the development of daily, weekly and monthly plans.
  • Assist in pit projects, haulage, dump and rehab designs.
  • Scheduling of waste to dumps and haulage analysis
  • Ensuring machine and dump set up is planned and prioritised to meet critical dates
  • Ensure compliance to legislative requirements and site standards.

To be successful in the role you will also display the following skills and attributes:

 

Essential Criteria:

  • A Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or in a related engineering discipline;
  • Previous experience in mine planning within an Open Cut Coal Mining environment;
  • Experience with CAD design software packages such as Deswik, shot plus, or Vulcan;
  • An eye for detail and an ability to develop practical and achievable mine designs and schedules;
  • Strong communication and time management skills;
  • Ability to manage stakeholders at all levels;
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint skills;

Desirable criteria:

  • Experience with Deswik design software for open cut mine design.
